AMA with WhaleRoom

Tom BlockUnify
We will structure the AMA like this; first, we’ll have a closed round where Neon BlockUnify and I will be asking you guys some questions, and then we’ll open up the channel for the community to ask you whatever they want to ask, sounds simple enough right?

Chris WhaleRoom
Sounds great

Tom BlockUnify
Perfect

Tom BlockUnify
So can you guys tell us a little bit about yourself and give us a little introduction about what WhaleRoom exactly is?

Chris WhaleRoom
Sure thing, we are a team of crypto enthusiasts, passionate about building communities and impacting the way people communicate in the blockchain industry for the better! We’ve lived the process of discovering new projects via communities on Telegram and Discord, but always felt a better platform should emerge. We decided to build it ourselves and that’s how WhaleRoom was born. Our initial objective was to build a platform for crypto enthusiasts to discuss their favorite crypto projects in an environment free from bots and agenda-driven individuals that are filling discussion channels on traditional social platforms.

After many discussions with token creators and crypto teams to understand their exact needs, we used these insights to start creating a frictionless social infrastructure for token-based communities where token creators and crypto teams can create social branded spaces to interact with their holders. We’re pushing the limits of what is possible with web3 technology to provide the best social platform for next-generation crypto natives. It is important to empower every community as they see fit. We strongly believe in empowering crypto communities and the broader industry via our infrastructure.

Tom BlockUnify
Awesome, I’ve known about you guys for quite some time now and I can see this product really fits in the crypto market. I have been a part of many communities and there is not one where I did not have to deal with massive amounts of FUD, I reckon something like WhaleRoom could effectively tackle FUD but also bridge communities & teams in a very meaningful way?

Chris WhaleRoom
Exactly right!

Tom BlockUnify
So for our community to better understand, can you tell us a little bit about how this works? How do people get access to these social branded spaces?

Chris WhaleRoom
Yes, our goal is to make it easy for token project teams to create a room on our platform and enforce a room minimum. We are currently in the process of also adding the possibility for projects to add multiple minimums for one room (layered rooms). Let’s take the example of the ETH community room where the room minimum is set to 1 ETH. You need to show up to our platform with at least 1 ETH on a connected wallet to access the discussion in that room. Beyond that, members who use the platform more frequently can get our social token WHL to unlock special platform features. We call our barrier-to-entry mechanism “Proof of Ownership”.
We believe community tokenization is an exciting new way for brands, organizations, and influencers to engage with their communities like never before. Whether a community is made up of consumers of a technology, users of a platform, or fans of a celebrity or a sports team, utility and social tokens can create game-changing experiences for all stakeholders involved.

Tom BlockUnify
Perfect, makes sense. Which brings me to my next question, how can projects reward the community using social tokens?

Chris WhaleRoom
Great question! By tokenizing their community, one can do the following:

1) Measure and reward positive group involvement and offer token-based incentives for users to take action or increase participation.
2) Implement a more streamlined system to offer contests and competitions.
3) Create unique marketing strategies designed to target their ideal audience.
4) Utilize a more personalized approach to conducting market research by engaging with users who have a stake in the project.
5) Reduce time and resources used to conduct paper surveys while allowing users direct opportunities to provide input or feedback.
6) Develop easier ways to collect data and insight into their communities.
7) Build a stronger sense of trust with customers, users, and fans.

It is also a way for the community to have control over the governance of their projects in a simple and trustless way.

Tom BlockUnify
Crystal clear. WhaleRoom seems to be targeting social analytics. What is the value add for community members here?

Chris WhaleRoom
Indeed, social analytics is an essential part of WhaleRoom’s long-term vision! We have already designed unique in-app features that we’ll improve over time such as anonymous KPIs, which gives premium users an easy way to know what bags other platform participants are holding without revealing wallet addresses. We also have designed a unique social metric such as the “total room value” which we plan to turn into a valuable metric for projects who join our ecosystem.

Other in-app insights we will continually add to the platform revolve around member activity and on-chain analytics related to featured projects. Ultimately, we want to provide members data about the communities they’re a part of, for example: “10% of token holders in project A are also supporting a charity” or “most token holders in project B are also invested heavily in a specific project”. Through WhaleRoom, social stakeholders can understand what each community cares about as a whole or on an individual basis. We believe in making it easy for platform users to see insights about themselves in the context of the communities they care about.

Neon BlockUnify
What is the use of WHL token on the platform?

Chris WhaleRoom
Great question! WHL social tokens have been integrated into the WhaleRoom.org social platform for users in the community. Holders of the WHL social tokens automatically unlock premium features when they hold WHL in at least one of their associated wallets.

Anyone can see the breakdown of these features here: https://whaleroom.org/p2p-social-token

The WhaleRoom system will automatically detect which tier you belong in and award your account the right features inside the platform. You keep the features as long as you hold the tokens in the respective quantities seen below. These features are designed to help users understand their communities better and for the broader WhaleRoom community to interact with our team and one another. This provides the users of our community anonymous access to the platform — no personal information is required, just a secure connection of their wallet via trusted web3 wallets.

Important to note that there is a limited quantity of these token-based memberships, we wanted the membership to be scarce. Also important to note that you do not need to have one of these tiers to use the platform. Anyone holding WHL social tokens long-term to make use of the platform can participate in a fully peer-to-peer loyalty staking game. It is important to note that people who stake their WHL social tokens are not penalized when it comes to premium tier access. All info related to WHL can be found via the url above.

Tom BlockUnify
Only 1m WHL token Total Supply ever, correct?

Chris WhaleRoom
Correct with no mint function.

Neon BlockUnify
Can you shed some light on the recent partnerships and integrations? What’s their significance?

Chris WhaleRoom
In Q4, we are integrating with LunarCrush to provide social analytics directly from the platform. An early version of this feature is already available on our open beta.

In 2022 we plan to integrate with platforms like Messari and plug-in with other leading APIs such as Santiment (among many others). We are constantly seeking out the best data providers to offer the most comprehensive experience to our users. The goal is to make WhaleRoom so useful that users only want to use WhaleRoom to conduct research.

Neon BlockUnify
LunarCrush is our friend..

Chris WhaleRoom
LunarCrush is amazing.

Neon BlockUnify
Absolutely. Killer team.

Neon BlockUnify
The question that we have been getting a lot from the Whaleroom community is about the membership tiers. Can you comment about the various membership tiers? What are the key differences?

Chris WhaleRoom
We believe in a “hold to unlock model”. All you have to do is to hold the WHL or staked version of WHL (WHLC) and you will benefit from the WhaleRoom platform’s premium member features for as long as you hold. These features are designed for users who want to make the most of the platform features in the long-term. In total, we have 5 Official WhaleRoom rooms for each of the tiers. If you are an Apex member, you get access to all 5. If you are a Zen member, you get access to only the Zen room. We plan on providing engaging content via these rooms in the long term and also want them to serve as platform member hangout spots on WhaleRoom. There are other differences in terms of features depending on which tier you qualify for. Those benefits are listed on our website. Ex: Apex (people who hold at least 10k WHL) members can enter into rooms regardless of Room minimums. You can check out https://whaleroom.org/p2p-social-token and our website to see which tier will be best for you. Since there is a limited inventory of WHL, it means there can only ever be at most 100 Apex members OR 1 million Zen members for example. The distribution of members across all 5 tiers will change over time as we keep adding more premium features and benefits to each tier.

Tom BlockUnify
We consider this channel a zen room as well.

Chris WhaleRoom
Exactly!

Tom BlockUnify
Final question! What is the endgame of the Social Economy?

Chris WhaleRoom
We know that there will be a proliferation of token-based projects via web3 tech over the next few decades. Communities are forming around businesses, services providers, influencers, DAOs, and so on. Because of this, there will be a new era of communities that will be governed via blockchain systems, and we are going to have a much more decentralized social economy as that unfolds. We believe that this trend is what will ultimately help prop up the online gig economy to the next level, we’re already seeing early signs of this.

There are currently over 12,000 tokens in existence — How many more are going to emerge when every real estate project, art, Web3.0 platforms, etc. become token-based? This new economy will allow for P2P business models and social interaction that has never been possible before.

We don’t think this phenomenon will only happen on one blockchain. It will be a multi-chain. This is why WhaleRoom is blockchain agnostic and is integrating with all the popular blockchains that embrace token creation. We are providing an infrastructure to allow token-based communities to flourish. We want to be there to provide a leading piece of social infrastructure to help make it happen. We believe that Proof of Ownership is going to become a new standard in the social Web.3 economy.

Looking at the big picture, the end goal of the social economy is a transition from shareholders capitalism towards stakeholders capitalism. Shareholders capitalism which has governed the economy over the last decades focused on profit maximization by a central authority. Stakeholders capitalism, on the other hand, is aligning the proper incentive for a community for it to flourish with no central authority governing, ultimately resulting in better outcomes for all the holders and market participants, from the end consumers to the employees. We hope to see you all on WhaleRoom soon!

Tom BlockUnify
Awesome Chris, thank you for all the answers

Chris WhaleRoom
My pleasure and thanks to you guys!

Neon BlockUnify
we are excited to announce that WhaleRoom is now under ZenX Labs Acceleration!

Chris WhaleRoom
🙌 We’re happy to be here and part of the community 🐋

Tom BlockUnify
If you guys want to stay an extra 10mins to answer our communities their questions we would love that

Chris WhaleRoom
Of course, let’s do it 🙂

Nigey
Good Ama, and thanks Chris. I know it’s early doors, what adoption are you seeing in the rooms at the moment?

Chris WhaleRoom
Since we are still in open beta, interaction is low. Based on early feedback from users, we are moving from a more Twitter-like UX to more of a hybrid Telegram+Twitter UX. See revamp in the works below. We plan on growing room adoption by working with select projects with large audiences as well as working with new projects that emerge and need our type of infrastructure.

Neon BlockUnify
Sick dashboard!

SeikatsuIO
Any News on the iOS App? Still under review right?

Chris WhaleRoom
Yes, the iOS app is still in review by Apple, we are following all of their recommendations and working with them to get it on the app store ASAP. You can access the open beta via the web app on desktop or via the Android app. We will be creating a web mobile-friendly version of WhaleRoom and plan to have that available by late Q4 or early Q1.

K
So what if after 1m of ZEN users after getting in WhaleRoom, how do the new users come in? Does every holder need to sell their WHLC?

Chris WhaleRoom
These memberships are to unlock special social features, but are not necessary to make use of the platform. We could also lower the Zen tier minimum at any time if it ever becomes inaccessible price wise.

G G
Thanks so much that was great!

Chris WhaleRoom
